In 2009, Nike revealed subtle changes to Washington’s classic scheme and simplified uniforms with less lines on jerseys and a wide pants stripe. At home, purple tops with gold pants are combined with gold shells for a clean look. On the road, all-white is the combination of choice, but the Huskies have worn black pants as well. Washington wore black for the first time in 2010 during the program’s first-ever Thursday night game against UCLA.
A matte black helmet is scheduled to arrive fall 2013 to complete Washington’s black-out look.
In recent years, the Huskies have worn black tops and pants outlined in purple and gold often at home. Purple numerals with a gold wordmark and neckline is the perfect contrast against black tops. Washington has purple, white and black jerseys with purple, white, black and gold pants to choose from on gamedays.
Since 1960, only gold, purple and white shells have been used. If black makes an appearance in 2013, it’ll be a program first.
Washington’s current “W” logo has been worn on helmets for nearly four decades. The Huskies donned a white helmet twice in 2011, once against Hawaii to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11 with a USA-inspired “W” and once against Baylor in the record-breaking 67-56 Alamo Bowl.
Washington signed a 10-year extension with Nike in 2008. The pair has had a contractual relationship since 1997.
