Back to the College Football Uniforms
UConn’s official colors are “National Flag Blue and White”, so it’s no surprise that the staples of tradition are mixed in well with the Huskies football uniforms. No black. No anthracite gray alternate. None of the trendy colors have been included in the gameday garb from Nike, at least not since a move to a more traditional look in 2009.
Currently, UConn as four uniform combinations — white, navy tops with white, navy pants — to go along with a navy helmet featuring a block “C” logo that’s been in place since 2003. Prior to the swoosh’s return to basics on UConn’s uniforms, silver stripes could be found on the Huskies’ jerseys in the mid 2000s and silver pants were also worn.
Now, game pants are relatively simple with a white or navy stripe with contrasting piping down each leg.
The Huskies donned a “UConn” wordmark on their helmets from 1978-01 before scrapping the look for “UC” in 2002 for one season. UConn has worn white facemasks since 1994. Over history, one of UConn’s strangest helmets was the 1964 two-tone look. Half of the shell was navy, the other half white with inverted “C” logos on each side.
UConn’s last Nike revamping came in 2009, but updated uniform combinations are expected for the 2013 season as part of the Huskies’ rebranding following the Randy Edsall era. Connecticut signed a 10-year, $45.5 million contract with Nike in 2008.
