Back to the College Football Uniforms
The Golden Knights can thank Marcus Jordan, Mike’s son, for their current five-year deal with the swoosh. Adidas dropped Central Florida in 2010 after the freshman basketball player refused to wear the three stripes on the hardwood in homage to his Airness.
With two years remaining on its deal with the swoosh, Central Florida unveiled updated and innovative Nike threads in May, a collection featuring black, white and gold jerseys along with two new alternate helmets.
A matte black helmet includes a gold flake stripe reminiscent of Notre Dame’s hue. The Golden Knights have played in their current white shell with the interlocking “UCF” decal since 2007. It’s the first change to the Knights’ uniforms since their inaugural season with Nike in 2010. Previous combinations with Nike included white, black or gold tops with white, black or gold pants.
Central Florida often donned a tri-color look, one of college football’s only teams to do so with a white helmet, black jersey and gold pants. The new threads this fall kept contrasting piping and the program’s “UCF” logo at the crest but added Vanderbilt-esque wider stripes along the thigh.
Nike has provided the program with a more sinister look while Central Florida preferred old gold as its primary color under Adidas previously. The three stripes offered up jerseys with wide shoulder stripes free of piping and pants that saw little contrast besides a vector that stretched from the knee to mid-thigh.
