Back to the College Football Uniforms
If there’s one team in the Big East in need of a major uniform overhaul, it’s the Temple Owls.
Under Armour tried to spice up Temple’s gameday look in 2012 by incorporating the program’s first all-black get up in more than a decade, but it wasn’t enough. Temple’s current combinations include maroon, white and black tops along with maroon, white and black pants. Under Armour’s decision to keep Temple’s candy-cane pattern from the Adidas era on its pants wasn’t a good one.
Current uniforms are simple, almost to a fault. Home maroon jerseys feature blocked white numerals on the tops of shoulders and across the chest as well as a “Temple” wordmark. A diamond-patterned neckline is unique to the Owls. At home, maroon tops and white pants is the usual get up and on the road, Temple prefers white jerseys with maroon pants.
Temple went to its current helmet, a maroon shell with the program’s familiar white “T”, in 2011. Prior to that, the Owls donned similar helmets with a “Temple” wordmark instead of a single letter. Temple ditched white shells with Owl graphics in 2004 for the more classic maroon. The white helmets had been worn since 1996 during Temple’s Nike era.
The swoosh incorporated lots of black to contrast with maroon and white, but the white shells and variety of Owl logos never seemed to work. Drop-shadowed numerals, commonplace during the late 90s, gave Temple’s home all-maroon with black trim combination an awkward look.
Temple signed its current deal with Under Armour in 2010.
