Back to the College Football Uniforms
The Golden Flashes signed up with Nike in 2010 after several years under New Balance, but the swoosh has yet to improve Kent State’s look on the field.
The team’s Nike threads are plain, base-colored with thin piping and side panels. Kent State’s uniforms are modeled after the most recent Nike template and feature a decent range of combinations. The Golden Flashes have navy and white tops along with navy, white or gold pants.
White jerseys have a “KENT STATE” wordmark while the home blues are designed with a small “FLASHES” across the chest. Kent State’s monochrome white option on the road is its best look complete with navy numerals outlined in gold and the program’s primary logo patch in team colors on the left hip.
The main problem with Kent State’s current Nike set is the lack of distinguishable features such as gold vents or perhaps a gold alternate jersey.
Kent State unleashed an alternate helmet during its bowl game against Arkansas State during the 2012 campaign, a yellow lid with a “K” on the back and piercing eyes on the shell just above the facemask. The bizarre helmets were a gift provided by Darrell Hazell after Kent State’s head coach rummaged through the archives and found the throwback shells rather enticing.
Kent State first donned the look 40 years ago in the Tangerine Bowl. Since 2000, the program’s primary helmet has been navy with the primary “K” graphic in gold.
