So, what is it?
You know, that green “V” inside the blue stripe on the back of Fresno State’s football helmets?
According to the school’s athletic department, the “V” symbolizes “Fresno State’s pride in representing the San Joaquin Valley and the color green was selected to honor the importance of the agriculture industry to the region.”
While the university appreciates its reputation as one of the most prominent agriculture schools in the country, don’t expect the Bulldogs to pull out a green alternate anytime soon. In 2011, Nike updated Fresno State’s threads with a sleek and simplistic design defined by contrasting “vents” along the ribcage and gradient striping on sleeves. The red home jerseys and white road tops flow well when paired with same color pants. All-red at home with the Bulldogs’ red helmet is downright intimidating.
Fresno State’s updated pants mimic what the swoosh boasts at Arizona — white, red and blue combinations with gradient details. The Bulldogs’ previous Nike uniforms had few interesting characteristics during an era of screen-printed graphics and drop-shadowed numerals. Helmet stickers with the primary bulldog logo were updated in 2012 to include a larger red shirt on the mutt.
Fresno State has donned red shells since the 1970s, it is however debuting an all-new set for the 2013 campaign. Updated choices will include a white shell with Fresno State’s primary logo, a matte black option with a bulldog face and a red helmet featuring a secondary script wordmark.
