Back to the College Football Uniforms
Adidas stepped up its game at Central Michigan in 2012, unleashing a full uniform makeover in Mt. Pleasant that rivals what Nike did at similar color-schemed Arizona State two years prior.
The eight unique combinations include four same-color choices — black, gold, maroon and white — and an all-new black helmet. Finished in matte with a tapering maroon and gold stripe down the middle, Central Michigan’s black lid creates an impressive match with its all-black alternate. A “CENTRAL MICHIGAN” wordmark stretches across the program’s black alternate while “CHIPPEWAS” is used on the white, gold and maroon tops. Another element exclusive to the black alternates is the school’s primary “C” logo on the left hip. It’s oversized on the black pants and normal on others.
The Chippewas’ maroon shell with a gold stylized “C” graphic, will be paired with the other seven jersey-pants choices. Contrasting, uniform specific base layers were also unveiled with the redesign, each with sayings that symbolize what it means to play football at Central Michigan.
Prior to the switch that brought the Chippewas to forefront within the three stripes brand, Central Michigan’s on-field apparel was generic with a University of Minnesota feel (before the Golden Gophers’ updated Nike threads).
The Chippewas were outfitted by New Balance before partnering with Adidas in 2009. It was a huge step for the athletic department after the nearby Michigan Wolverines inked an eight-year, $60 million deal with the three stripes brand two years earlier.
