Appalachian State Mountaineers Football Uniforms

Back to the College Football Uniforms

Appalachian State has come a long way — from an apparel standpoint — since setting the college football world on fire with an upset victory at Michigan on Sept. 1, 2007.

Prior to joining the FBS ranks in the Sun Belt Conference in 2014, the Mountaineers will celebrate their final year at the FCS level in 2013 with a uniform redesign from Nike. Five different mix-and-match options of white and black threads will be available as well as the program’s first gray alternate jersey with the team’s “ALWAYS ATTACK” motto across the nameplate.

The makeover includes contrasting black sleeves on the road white jerseys and the program’s primary “A” logo on each arm. Home black tops feature white numerals outlined in yellow with a yellow “APPALACHIAN STATE” wordmark and flywired black collar. Nike’s vertical net design on the shoulders of Appalachian State’s black home tops has been dropped, as has the program’s primary yellow alternate.

Black and white pants can be used at home or on the road and include a contrasting oversized “A” on the left hip. Yellow alternate pants are no longer a part of Nike’s ensemble. The Mountaineers’ 2013 matte black helmet will feature the program’s classic “Yosef” logo — a yellow mountaineer with a corncob pipe — in yellow, black and white.

Yosef first appeared on gold shells in 1971 and lasted for the next two decades before reappearing on a yellow alternate helmet in 2012. Since 1995, Appalachian State’s primary look has been a glossy black shell with the school’s primary “A MOUNTAINEERS” graphic. The program’s first black shell made its debut in 1983.

Prior to Nike’s 2013 redesign, the Mountaineers’ uniform featured contrasting piping that stretched across the chest and wrapped around each sleeve.
