Back to the College Football Uniforms
Quarterback Chase Daniel brought Missouri football back to prominence in the Big XII from 2006 to 2008 and with that, Nike responded with various uniform combinations and top-of-the-line technology. The Tigers used the same black shell with gold “M” helmet throughout, but jerseys and pants often changed, incorporating Mizzou’s black and gold main colors.
In November 2009, Nike supplied Missouri with a Pro Combat stone grey (anthracite) alternate helmet, jersey and pants combination for the Tigers to wear against Kansas. The stealth, sleek get up incorporated colors of a B-52 bomber housed at Missouri’s Whiteman Air Force Base and featured then cutting-edge ventilation and moisture-wicking technology.
Missouri ditched the traditional capitalized M logo in 2012 during their first season in the SEC for a more modernized Tiger growl image. The home and away helmet is black with a gold stripe while a heavily-used alternate is matte black with an oversized gold Tiger wrapping around both sides. Like Arkansas, Nike’s newest SEC celebrity, Missouri has several combinations of interesting looks and clashing colors. The white top the Tigers wear on the road seems to be the most interesting, a light jersey with grey shoulders and black numbers outlined in gold.
The gold alternate color is used in many forms, including a prominent logo display on a matte black helmet. Gold tops feature a stretchy, black slash just below the shoulder, something Nike conjured up to resemble Tiger stripes.
From 1996-2011, Missouri’s helmet every game was a black shell with a gold stripe and gold M logo.
