Back to the College Football Uniforms
Old Gold or Vegas Gold. It doesn’t seem like the Yellow Jackets can make up their minds, going with different shades of the metallic hue on multiple gamedays in recent years with two different apparel companies – Adidas and Russell Athletic.
In 2012, the Yellow Jackets brought white helmets into the mix for the first time in six years and also kept their traditional gold shells afloat.
Russell Athletic’s complete uniform alterations included new white, navy and gold jerseys and two styles of pants. If you looked closely at the on-field apparel, honeycomb patterns were placed on numbers, shoulders, nameplates and shells – a direct resemblance to Maryland’s “turtle shells” made by Under Armour.
Like most new-age pants, Georgia Tech’s Russell Athletic trousers are made with “Extreme Power” fabric used for proper pad position and a lean fit.
Before signing its current deal with Russell Athletic in 2008, Georgia Tech was outfitted by Adidas and donned several mustard-colored throwbacks during the Calvin Johnson era. Before reverting back to white shells as a primary helmet, the Yellow Jackets donned gold domes every year since 1973.
Russell plans to incorporate navy jerseys into the mix in the future to commemorate tops worn by the 1990 national championship team.
